Make a Mother's Day Butterfly Vase with Craft Attitude & a Giveaway!

I recently had the chance to work with an awesome product called Craft Attitude, and I used it to make a pretty Glass Butterfly Vase! This was an easy project that makes a lovely Handmade Gift for Mom on Mother's Day.

I used "Decor Attitude" for my project, but there is a whole range of Craft Attitude Products, that will allow you to transfer onto nearly any type of material that you can think of, including jewelry, scrapbook pages, wood, faux flowers, magnets, quilts and more! This stuff is so easy to use too! It's basically a printable film, that is backed by paper. You run it through your inkjet computer and then you apply it to the surface of your choice, using either a glue stick or spray adhesive. So fun!

Supplies:
1) Craft Attitude Printable Film
2) Clear Glass Vase (I got mine at Target, it's about 4 3/4" wide by 7" tall)
3) Opaque White Glass Paint (I used Martha Stewart Crafts Glass paint)
4) Soft Paintbrush
5) Elmer's Glue Stick
6) Rubbing Alcohol
7) Printable Butterflies

Step 1: Clean the glass vase thoroughly and wipe down with a little rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth, to remove any fingerprints.
Step 2: Paint the inside of the vase with the glass paint and let dry for an hour in between coats. I used 4 coats of paint for mine.

Step 3: Follow the instructions on the glass paint that you used,  in order to cure it fully. I love how it looks like Milk Glass when it's all painted!

Step 4: Print out your design (you can download this free Butterfly Print Here) and cut it to fit your Vase. I used a paper cutter to get an even edge, but found that scissors worked better. So I ended up trimming up any raggedy edges with the scissors. (Keep in mind, that your image will be reversed, so if it has text on it, you will want to mirror the image first before printing... I've already reversed the Butterfly print for you.).

Step 5: Peel off the paper backing, and apply an even coat of glue with the Glue Stick, to the shiny side (the side where the ink is printed). You want the dull side to be face up on your piece. That way the ink is on the underside, and is now sealed so that it will be waterproof!

Step 6: Apply to the front of your vase and smooth down with your fingers. You'll see that the image is slightly faded, since we have flipped it and the ink is on the underside, which gives it a great vintage look!

Tip: If you're going to use the vase with fresh flowers, you can cut up a small milk jug to place inside as a liner.

Or you can use dried or artificial flowers, and then you won't need a liner. I hope you liked this project! Now scroll down for the Giveaway!!

Also, be sure and check out the other designers taking part in this Mother’s Day craft series- there are so many lovely projects!! (And you can enter their giveaways too!)

Make a Painted Glass Platter for Mother's Day

This is a pretty Glass Platter that I Painted for Mother's Day. This would make a lovely Gift for Mom and it was so fun and easy to make! I got to use my favorite craft supplies from Martha Stewart crafts by Plaid. If you read my blogs regularly you may already know that I am totally hooked on the Martha Stewart Adhesive Silkscreens! They are ridiculously fun and easy to use. You can make gorgeous projects with them in just minutes!

Supplies:
1) Martha Stewart Crafts Adhesive Silkscreens ( I used Paisley)
2) Martha Stewart Glass Paint - Gloss Opaque ( Colors used - Pool & Spring Pasture)
3) Foam Pouncer
4) Square Glass Platter (I found mine at Target)
5) Rubbing Alcohol

This is how the platter looked when I purchased it. It has a nice shape but was so plain. It measures about 12 1/2" square.
Step 1: Wash the platter with soap and water and dry. Then wipe it down with the rubbing Alcohol and a clean cloth to remove any residue and fingerprints.

Step 2: Apply the Adhesive Silkscreen to the back of the platter. All you do is remove the paper backing and stick it down. Easy!

Step 3: Using the foam pouncer, apply the paint over the Silkscreen. Remove the Silkscreen as soon as your done and wash it thoroughly. Wait about 15 minutes for the paint to dry before painting on the next Paisley.
Tip: The first time I did this, my Paisley's weren't evenly spaced. I found that I could easily remove them, even after they had dried, by wiping them with the rubbing Alcohol. I was able to start over and get them just right, the second time around!

Step 4: Lastly, you can either let the paint air cure for 21 days, or you can bake it in your oven, according to the instructions HERE.

That's it! Now you have a lovely Platter that you can give to Mom or serve her something yummy on for Mother's Day!

You can find this pretty Paisley Stencil, and so many other gorgeous designs, at Michael's Crafts

Make Silhouette Knobs with Mod Podge Transfer Medium

Last week I worked on a fun project, some Silhouette  Knobs, with cute Boys and Girls Profiles on them! I got to play with a new product from Plaid too, it's called Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium!

Mod Podge Photo Transfer makes it easy to personal any product with your favorite images or photos!

Supplies:

 1) Mod Podge Transfer Medium (You can find it at Michael's Crafts)
 2)Wooden Knobs (I got mine at Lowe's, they're just under 2" wide)
3)White Paint (I used flat, but I think semi gloss would be better)
 4)Foam Brush
 5)Mod Podge - Gloss Formula
 6) Sponge

This is the before photo. I started out with some plain wooden knobs from Lowes.

Step 1: Using the Foam Brush, apply several coats of white paint to the knobs, until they are fully covered.
Click HERE for the Full Size Printable PDF

Step 2: Download the Printable and, using your home printer, print it out onto plain white printer paper. (I used an inkjet printer)

Step 3: Trim out as many of the Silhouettes as you need, trimming as close to the image as possible.

The white bits will transfer as well, but since we are applying them to white knobs, it won't matter as much.

Step 4: Apply a thick coat of the transfer medium, about 1/16 of an inch thick. You want the image fully covered, so that you can barely see the image through it.

Step 5: Place the image face down, so that the wet side is pressed against the knob. Pat lightly to adhere, try not to squeeze the medium out, if any does leak out, you can wipe it up with a cloth. Make sure your edges are stuck down firmly too! Next, you'll need to let it sit for 24 hours.

Step 6: After the 24 hours is up, using a wet sponge, dampen the transfer. Then let it sit for 2 Minutes.

Step 7: After the two minutes is up, come back with the damp sponge and start to rub lightly in a circular motion. Little paper balls will start to fall off and reveal your image. You will probably have to do this several times, letting it dry in between to see how much more you need to remove. Some of the ink did smear onto the white painted area, and I ended up touching it up with some more paint. I think this happened because the paint was flat, if the paint had been semi gloss, I'm pretty sure I would have been able to just wipe off the smeared ink. At any rate, it only took me a minute to touch up the paint so it wasn't a big deal!

Step 8: Apply a coat of Mod Podge Gloss, to bring out the image even more and give it a sheen that makes the knobs look at bit like porcelain! (You could also use flat Mod Podge, if you don't want the shine.) And there you have it, some cute knobs to dress up your painted furniture projects, or perhaps you could use them to make a coat rack for your mudroom!

My recent Craft Supply Haul - Consumer Crafts

Last week I did my first Haul Video, for some awesome Craft Supplies that I got from ConsumerCrafts.com Not only was it my first Haul Video, it was my first video of any kind! Yikes, I was a little nervous, can you tell?

Anyway Consumer Crafts gave me a $50 Credit to purchase what ever I wanted from their online shop. I went over that by a few dollars, but for the most part I stayed on budget. I got so much stuff for that!

Here's what I got:
Sheet Moss
Paper Mache Stars
Gold Leaves
Composition Silver Leaf
5" Round Mirros
Red Floral Embellishments
Glass Tiles
Jewelry supplies - Pendant Trays

The closest craft supply store is a bit of a haul for me, and this time of year the lines are long, and the stores are so crowded. I loved that everything came right to my door and I could avoid all of of that, super convenient and my box came super fast too!

I really liked everything that I got and I can't wait to start crafting with it all. I talk about my ideas for all of these things in the video.

I don't think you can see this very well on the video, but two of the sets of Pendant Trays, came with these great little clear covers! I love that, because I think I'll be able to make some really fast necklaces out of these!

And here's some exciting news, they're having a Big Sale on November 26th, 30% off and Free Shipping!! Wahoo!  That's a great time to give them a try!

(US customers can order online, but customers outside of the US need to call in their orders)
